This life-sustaining planet is now home to the surviving population from Earth. Here there is a chance to start again, to bring the lessons learned from Earth and to put them into action on a new planet. The series begins on the day the last known transporter from Earth arrives, prompting great excitement on the new planet - who is on board? Friends and loved ones? Important supplies and news from Earth? But also many questions - will the new people bring the problems of Earth with them? Will the mistakes that destroyed Earth be repeated? Will the arrival of a new, would-be leader, rock the fragile and precarious equilibrium of the fresh, unified and courageous new world? And, most importantly of all, how do is a new and better world created?

The A.C.s have Lily and agree to surrender her if the Carpathians will heal Rudi's sick baby but nerves on both sides lead to the hand-over being a disaster as Cass kills one of the A.Cs and the Carpathians retreat to their capital,Forthaven, with the baby.

Stella asks wide boy and Maths wizard Tipper Malone to decipher the notes of the late Professor Rosen, given her by Berger, regarding the white-outs,or fierce sand-storms,that affect the planet and how the settlers may defend against them. Tipper predicts the next white-out will be devastating and Tate orders everybody inside Forthaven. The A.C.s attack, causing a power cut which almost jeopardises the birth of the first baby on Carpathia and which allows Josie to escape. However ,a bruised and bloodied Josie reappears, minus her children and claiming no knowledge of the foregoing events. Cass takes her back to the desert, where she is reunited with her children, who say that the 'other' Josie wanted to know how to love them. The false Josie briefly appears and then escapes into the desert, leaving Tate,Stella and Cass wondering how it was possible for there to be two Josie Hunters. Berger uses the A.C's attack as an excuse to tell Tate to be more ruthless with them before again contacting the invasion force.

Following the incident with Josie Hunter Stella and Tate believe there is a superior host force capable of cloning the settlers. Cass gets an anonymous note, threatening to expose him as Tom Starling, subject to a witness protection scheme. He gets drunk and picks up a woman,Carla Shapiro, with whom he sleeps. Next day Carla disappears, taking Cass's gun to kill her insanely possessive husband and Cass is arrested for her supposed murder. However he escapes and rescues her from an underground cell where her deranged husband has left her to die.He is exonerated but refuses to tell Fleur why he had to change his name, causing her to go out with Jack. When Tate returns from his fruitless meeting with Rudi he finds Berger trying to stage a revolt.
Season 1, Episode 8: Episode #1.8
Original Air Date-13 March 2011
A new virus hits Forthaven, striking down Lily and Tipper among others, and Tate fears it is the host's response to the city's signals. He and Stella plan to set up a transmitter to jam the signals carrying the virus but Berger tries to prevent them by explaining that it will stop the transporter with which he has been in touch from arriving from Earth. Berger tries to blame the outbreak on the A.C.s,especially Fleur and reveals that Fleur is an A.C. created in a niche project on Earth with some of Tate's DNA. Cass helps Fleur to escape to the desert, telling her that on Earth he worked for murderous gangsters but turned them in in exchange for his new identity. He delivers her to Rudi and the A.C.s set out on a trek for new territory. Tate resigns as president, handing over to Jack, who has Berger arrested and allows the transmitter to be created. Tipper and Lily are among those who recover as the virus is prevented, the transporter landing in the desert outside Forthaven.

With Earth rapidly becoming uninhabitable, pioneers seek to colonize the harsh terrain of the planet Carpathia. 10 years later, the town of Forthaven faces danger as the planet's dark secrets are revealed.
