Synopsis:

In this psychological thriller Lou Diamond Phillips stars as a hotshot L.A. homicide detective caught in a harrowing game with a man who lives to kill - and cannot die! After a long gruesome hunt Detective Russell Logan (Phillips) finally captures the brutal Pentagram killer (Jeff Kober) and watches as the murderer is executed at San Quentin the terror is over...or is it When the ritualistic killings begin again Logan is haunted by violent visions of the executed man and seeks the council of a beautiful psychic (Tracy Griffith). Together they discover that the Pentagram Killer one of Satan's disciples possesses the First Power - the ability to inhabit the bodies of others at will! Now Logan has to catch the killer again not knowing where when or in whom he'll show up next! Charged with bone-chilling suspense and other worldly evil the First Power will scare the devil out of you!

This lackluster attempt at blending equal parts action movie and supernatural thriller ends up sacrificing the merits of both genres. The plot finds baby-faced homicide detective Logan (Lou Diamond Phillips) on the trail of "Pentagram Killer" Patrick Channing (Jeff Kober), negligibly assisted by lots of occult mumbo-jumbo espoused by various doomsaying members of the Catholic Church. Channing is eventually captured and executed, but this turns out to be a big mistake: one of the Satanic powers Channing managed to acquire through ritual sacrifice is the power to transfer his soul into other living bodies, allowing him to roam about incognito and continue his killing spree. There is little overt horror on display, as we usually see only the aftermath of Channing's evil deeds; there is scarcely enough mystery to propel the police-procedural elements either. Worse, the producers apparently decided to toss in a romantic subplot involving Phillips and psychic Tracy Griffith to keep things interesting, but fail to sustain credibility even in this department.

Set in Los Angeles, the film is a story of a policeman who enlists the help of a psychic girl to put a serial killer, with a difference, behind bars. Serial killer Patrick Channing has been executed in the gas chamber, but his spirit returns in one body after another to seek vengeance on the L.A. Police Department.
