Katia and Volodia (1988)
With the 1989 documentary portrait Katia Et Volodia, French filmmaker Dominique Delouche pays unbridled tribute to Vladimir Vassiliev and Ekaterina Maximova, who held court for many years as the most popular and celebrated dancers in the company of Russia's esteemed Bolshoi Ballet. The pair gained such popularity, in fact, that their fame outstripped the boundaries of Russia itself and enabled them to net fans around the globe. In her cinematic reflections on Maximova and Vassiliev, Delouche draws from such resources as archival documents, classic footage of the pair in motion, and glimpses of their considerable success and fanbase. Delouche created this film just prior to the fall of the Soviet Union.

Maya: Portrait of Maya Plisetskaya (1999)
Dominique Delouche is one of the world's most distinguished documentary filmmakers. His 1999 portrait of Maya Plisetskaya chronicles the dancer, the woman, the teacher, the iconoclast through her own narration (in Russian), performance footage and coaching sessions with dancers from the Paris Opera Ballet. Excerpts from Don Quixote, Romeo and Juliet, Swan Lake and Bolero demonstrate Plisetskaya's awesome technique and her distinctive style that has often been imitated, but never duplicated.

Yvette Chauvire: A Star by Example (1987)
A note for the uninitiated: a prima ballerina assoluta represents the highest ranking of ballerina for women. Originally designated by the Italian Ballet Masters of the Romantic Ballet period, it is profoundly difficult to achieve; Frenchwoman Yvette Chauviré fit the bill perfectly, however. A dancer adroit with numerous forms, from classical to romantic ballets, Chauviré inspired countless artists and - some would argue - not only equaled but transcended the crème-de-la-crème of her chosen field. This 1987 documentary by director Dominique Delouche embodies one of the few filmed biographical portraits of Chauviré.

The Rediscovered Notebooks of Nina Vyroubova (1995)
Nina Vyroubova, born in Yalta and trained in Paris studios by legendary Russians Preobrajenska, Trefilova and Egorova, was a romantic ballerina who brought a special, exotic élan to Giselle and Balanchine's La Sonnambula, and an intensity to contemporary works. This moving tribute takes her on a nostalgic journey to the Vaganova Academy, where her teachers were trained, and to her hometown in Crimea, which she was forced to flee as a child.

Like the Birds (1990)
Dominique Delouche's acclaimed ballet film is a portrait of Monique Loudières, one of the Paris Opéra Ballet's greatest prima ballerinas of the 1990s. Like the Birds charts her collaborations with renowned dancer Patrick Dupond and choreographers Jerome Robbins, Violette Verdy and Yvette Chauviré. Adopting a point of view similar to Edgar Degas, Delouche gives the audience a glimpse into the demanding rehearsals for some of the most sublime opera ballets ever made, such as Don Quixote and Mirages. Through subtle camera work, Like the Birds paints an impressionist portrait of everyday life backstage at the Opéra Garnier.

Serge Peretti, the Last Italian (1997)
Serge Peretti, danseur noble and a still a dandy at the age of 91, is the quintessential inheritor of the classical training of the French school, nourished by the influence of Italians like Vestris, Taglioni and Coralli. Six months before Peretti's death, Delouche filmed the historic figure, who incarnates the purity and elegance of his training in ballets by Fokine, Nijinska and Lifar. Also a master teacher at the Paris Opera, he inspired French stars Cyril Atanassoff and Attilo Labis, among others. The two shorts complement the program: Autour de la Sylphide (1984; 10m), with Ghislaine Thesmar and Michael Demard, and Pas à pas (1982; 8m), a John Neumeier pas de deux with Patrick Dupond.

Violette and Mister B. (2001)
For decades, Violette Verdy reigned as one of the most celebrated of all contemporary ballerinas and the preeminent ballet dancer among choreographer George Balanchine's protégés. In her retirement years, Verdy branched out into choreography herself and inducted numerous young hopefuls into the ballet arena. Dominique Delouche's documentary Violette et Mister B. observes Verdy at work against the backdrop of the Paris Opera Ballet, coaching established and still-blossoming dancers in the works of Balanchine and Jerome Robbins. Highlights include Verdy's coaching of Isabelle Guerin in Dances at a Gathering, Elizabeth Maurin in Emeralds, and Elisabeth Platel and Nicolas Le Riche in In the Night.

Markova the Legend (2001)
The film features Markova coaching final year graduates of the Paris Opera Ballet School in her most famous roles (which are illustrated by archive footage).

Serge Lifar Musagete (2005)
This documentary is a tribute to the lasting legacy of the French-Russian dancer/choreographer Serge Lifar (1905-1988) who carried on the Diaghilev tradition of the Ballets Russes, developed a strong presence for male dancers, and who employed renowned choreographers such as George Balanchine, Leonnide Massine, and Frederick Ashton. In his autobiography, Lifar coyly stated that 'dance is my mistress.' Filmmaker Dominique Delouche, known for singling out the essential gifts of ballet legends, offers footage of Serge Lifar, Yvette Chauvire, Nina Vyroubova, Jean Babile, Isabelle Guerin, Monique Loudieres, Manuel Legris, Janine Charrat, Marcia Haydee, and the dancers of Paris National Opera.

Balanchine in Paris (2011)
Drawing on highlights from his previous films on Alicia Markova, Nina Vyroubova and Violette Verdy, France's leading chronicler of the process of ballet coaching adds new footage of former Paris Opera étoile and Balanchine muse Ghislaine Thesmar. Setting Palais de Cristal with two of the company's dancers, she sheds fresh light on the French/American symbiosis that marked Balanchine's career. This is a not-to-be-missed opportunity for students and fans of his choreography.

Petrushka, Journal of a Choreography (1982)
Petrouchka or Petrushka is a ballet with music by Russian composer Igor Stravinsky, composed in 1910-11 and revised in 1947.
