This boxset contains most of the Joris Ivens's films from 1912 to 1988, including:

Une histoire de vent:
A film crew headed by a veteran director (Joris Ivens) travels to China's Gobi desert in this symbolic documentary-styled fantasy. While the crew waits for the wind to kick up, weather reports tell of tidal waves every place but China. The director is hospitalized after a fall from his chair and has dreams he is part of the Melies film A Trip To The Moon.

Le 17e parallèle: La guerre du peuple:

Le Mistral:
Documentary on the effect of the Mistral wind in Provence.

Indonesia Calling:
Film of the Australian dock strike of 1945/46 in support of the declaration of independence of the Indonesian people, when Australian ports were used to send Dutch and English arms and ammunition into Indonesia. Film made in 1946

La Seine a rencontré Paris:

..A Valparaíso:
Life in a Valparaiso circus.

Rotterdam-Europoort:
Documentary on the Rotterdam airport.

The 400 Million:
Documentary on the heroic resistance of the Chinese to Japanese aggression.

Power and the Land:
A documentary showing the struggle to bring electricity to rural areas of the United States. |

The Spanish Earth:
A documentary showing the struggle of the Spanish Republican government against a rebellion by ultra-right-wing forces led by Gen. Francisco Franco and backed by Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy. |

Misère au Borinage:
A social documentary describing the fate of some 15,000 miners in the Borinage, who in 1932 staged a strike in protest against the announcement by Belgian mine-owners of a 5% cut in wages.

Nieuwe gronden:
Combination of film material shot during the reclamation of the Zuiderzee with film material relating to world economics, to illustrate the effects of the economic crisis which occurred after completion of the drainage project. The drainage and reclamation of the land is shown, followed by the production of the first agricultural crop by farmers. The construction of the dam to reclaim more land is illustrated with a map, and the work in progress is shot from the land, sea and air. This is then linked in with the theme of economic chaos, showing the burning of coffee crops and dumping of wheat crops in the sea in order to maintain price levels, juxtaposed with shots of the hunger marches in London and Berlin.

Komsomolsk:

Philips-Radio:
A patterned appreciation of the rhythms of work and machinery.

Regen:
Made by the two principal members of a Dutch film appreciation group, photographed entirely with a hand-held camera, this film explores the moods and visual patterns evoked by a downpour of rain in a city.

De Brug: Close shots of a railway train underway: track racing underneath, steam escaping, cars coupling, gears ratchetting, signals changing. The train reaches a lift bridge which must rise to allow a merchantman to pass below... Bridge section and counterweight move choreographically. The balletic motion of beam relative to girder creates an elegant, abstract expression of the precision of technology... The lift operator sets the bridge to the correct height then returns it to the original position. The train carries on its way, passing prosaically over the ship canal.

Études de mouvements:

De Wigwam:
