Synopsis:
Take Care of Your Scarf Tatjana (1994)
This droll tale of longing and awkward romance follows two misfits - a coffee addict and a vodka soaked mechanic - as they hit the road in their Sovietbuilt Volga. Along the way they manage to pick up two women, the Estonian Tatjana (Kati Outinen) and the buxom Russian Klavdia, despite sharing no common language and being completely clueless as to what to do with them next.

Drifting Clouds (1996)
Among Kaurismäki's finest films, 'Drifting Clouds' follows the dwindling fortunes of restaurant hostess ilona and her tram driver husband lauri, who find themselves unemployed at the same time.

Juha (1999)
Following the fortunes of Juha, an earnest farm worker whose wife is seduced away from him by a city slicker, the film is both a tribute to and a parody of the genre, delightfully peppered with references to Kaurismäki's cinematic heroes.

Take Care of Your Scarf, Tatiana (1994)
Lugubrious Finns Valto and Reino take to the road in search of coffee and vodka, without which their lives are not worth living. But their reveries are interrupted by the arrival of garrulous Russian Klaudia and Estonian Tatiana - who are clearly interested in the two men, despite the language barrier. But what are the chances of getting a response from men who prefer staring at vodka bottles to talking?

Drifting Clouds (1996)
Tram driver Lauri loses his job. Shortly later, the restaurant where his wife Ilona works as a head waitress is closed. Too proud to receive money from the social welfare system, they strive to find new jobs. But they are completely unlucky and clumsy, one disaster is followed by the next.

Juha (1999)
Marja (Kati Outinen) is a simple peasant woman married to her older husband Juha (Sakari Kuosmanen). They lead a very simple country life, spending most of their days farming and tending to their livestock. Marja's world is turned upside down when Shemeikka (André Wilms) comes to the happily married couple asking them for help with his broken down sports convertible and a place to spend the night. As Juha works to repair the car, Shemeikka attempts to lure Marja to leave Juha and come to the city with him. A hesitant Marja does not want to leave her husband at first but ultimately gives in to temptation after dreaming of a wonderful new life in a big city. Shemeikka and Marja leave for the city but Marja's dream quickly becomes a nightmare when Shemeikka enslaves her in a brothel.

Along the way they manage to pick up two women, the Estonian Tatjana (Kati Outinen) and the buxom Russian Klavdia, despite sharing no common language and being completely clueless as to what to do with them next. Set to a thumping rock and roll soundtrack, this beautifully observed and comically understated gem is classic Kaurismäki.

Drifting Clouds (1996)
Among Kaurismäki's finest films, 'Drifting Clouds' follows the dwindling fortunes of restaurant hostess ilona and her tram driver husband lauri, who find themselves unemployed at the same time. Embarking on an unforgiving search for work in a recession-hit Helsinki, Kaurismäki's comic masterpiece transforms the pair's plight into a hugely affecting story of hope and survival.

Juha (1999)
Kaurismäki brings his trademark wistfulness, irony and absurdist humour to the conventions of the silent film, utilising beautiful black and white photography, inter-titles and a lush, melodramatic score. Following the fortunes of Juha, an earnest farm worker whose wife is seduced away from him by a city slicker, the film is both a tribute to and a parody of the genre, delightfully peppered with references to Kaurismäki's cinematic heroes.
