Synopsis:

Alexander the Great (1980)
Megalexandros escapes from prison and captures some English tourists to hold as hostages. He returns to his village and finds there a commune in existence.

An old communist returns to Greece after 32 years in the Soviet Union. However, things aren't the way he had hoped for.

The Beekeeper (1986)
A bee keeper, Spiros, travels from the north to the south of Greece with his bees to meet the spring.

Road movie about two children (Voula and Alexandre) searching for their father who is supposed to live in Germany.

Alexander the Great (1980)
Megalexandros is a Greek bandit at the dawn of the 20th century. Wrapped in the spiritual cloak of yet another Megalexandros - a legendary Greek liberator and King Arthur-like figure whose tale originated in 1453 under Turkish domination and has come down through oral tradition over the centuries, he becomes a leader of mysterious charisma. He kidnaps a group of English aristocrats and takes them to a mountain village where he is attempting to establish an agrarian commune among a company of Italian anarchists. The socialist hero becomes a Stalin-like tyrant whose trademark silence only reinforces his power. A true work of demystification - from the roots of myth to the false promises of the new century.

The Suspended Step of the Stork (1991)
A TV journalist covering a story about refugees from Albania, Iran and Kurdistan who arrive in Greece by train, learns about their fears, anxieties and displacement and begins an affair with a young Albanian refugee woman. She is due to marry a man stranded on the other side of the river that forms a border between Greece and Albania. Amongst the refugees, the journalist also spots a missing politician.

Theo Angelopoulos is Greece's most celebrated filmmaker and has been acclaimed by British critics Derek Malcolm and David Thompson as one of the world s greatest living directors. His body of work examines the history of modern Greece from a social and political perspective.
