Synopsis:
In 1961 television current affairs did not exist in Australia. It took two men, Bob Raymond and Michael Charlton, to create it. They called it Four Corners. With a staff of six and a weekly budget of 480 pounds, Four Corners made its debut on Saturday 19th August 1961. It was a magazine-style show, quite different from the program of today. By the 1970s Four Corners was a fixture on the television landscape, covering a decade of social and political upheaval. In the 1980s, Four Corners adopted its current format - devoting 45 minutes of investigative reporting to a single issue. Over five decades, Four Corners has created and defined the major stories at the centre of Australian public life and has documented how Australia and television journalism has changed. This 50th Anniversary Collection covers the broad themes that have framed the life of the program - crime and corruption, social change, indigenous affairs, war and terrorism and politics.
