Synopsis:
What do you do if you are a young girl and discover you are lesbian if sexuality is a taboo topic at home and if homosexuality is out of the question? How does a farmer's girl with a Christian orthodox upbringing stand her ground within her religious environment in which homosexuality is rejected? What is the driving force for a lesbian icon from Amsterdam to organise women-only parties and to fight for gay emancipation? And what is it like for an ex-muslim who fled Morocco to look back? What are the limitations for a lesbian business woman? What attitude must a lesbian counsellor worker have towards a young lesbian client? Or, what happens if a model is rejected for jobs due to being openly lesbian? The lesbians in the film are all powerful women. We see their love for women, the struggles with social environments who do not accept them, but most of all their enormous willpower to create a loving and unobstructed life for themselves. Allemaal Lesbisch makes the lesbian of 2011 visible within a society in which a lot of situations are self-evident for heterosexuals, but are a challenge for lesbians.

This documentary was made by Mildred Roethof, working together with LetsBeOpen! (a platform for young lesbian women) and the Aletta Institute for women's history. Its topic is young, ambitious lesbian women in the Netherlands, who long for a society in which their sexual orientation is simply accepted. The documentary raises the question of what you do when your family won't accept your sexuality and you discover, as a young girl, that you're a lesbian. A girl from a family of strict Christian farmers talks about how she manages to stay on her feet in a religious environment that rejects homosexuality. A lesbian icon from Amsterdam tells the viewers why she fights for gay rights and organises parties for women only. A Moroccan girl, ex-muslim, talks about her family's fury, while a model reveals that being openly gay in the modelling world can really harm your chances of getting top jobs. The documentary shows a diversity of women, all of whom show the viewer that even in 2011, lesbian women face problems straight girls don't even have to think about. A must-see!
