Synopsis:
Ivan, a cynical journalist, works for a weekly news magazine specializing in scandal mongering stories and partying the rest of his time. So, when his Boss sends him on an assignment to check some mysterious events taking place in a small, remote town, he shows little enthusiasm. However, on his arrival, an encounter with a beautiful woman meets with his approval, things are looking good until they quickly turn very nasty and events spiral out of control with Ivan battling supernatural forces of evil... will he survive and defeat them?

The plotline of 'Vedma' is relatively straightforward, but quite clever. It is, in fact, a modern adaptation of a 1968 classic Russian horror film entitled 'Viy,' which, in turn, was a retelling of a short story of the same name by the great nineteenth-century Russian novelist Nikolai Gogel. In 'Vedma,' a bumbling 'everyman' named Ivan Berkhoff, a sated tabloid journalist, stumbles into a quaint village that contains a dark and menacing secret. Mistaken for the priest whom the inhabitants had requested to relieve them of their 'resident' evil, Ivan finds himself face-to-face with the full force of the powers of darkness. In the process, this 'ersatz' priest must face his own paralyzing fear and utter lack of faith. Indeed, 'faith' - how to obtain it and how to sustain it -- becomes the pivotal question in this deeply engrossing film.

A theology student is forced to read scripture for a young woman who has died. What he doesn't know is, she is the devil's emissary on earth. Over the three nights of his mission, Thomas is tempted and tormented by all the minions of hell as the young man's faith and courage are tested in a trial by fire.
