Synopsis:

Documentary about Roy Andersson and his fourth film 'You, the Living'. It's also a close personal portrait of one of Europe's most unique film director. We have followed Roy very close between the years 2003- 2007, during his work with his latest feature. The focus of the documentary is on Roy Andersson, his ideas and the practical work with the film. Our documentary will also work as a 'manual' to Roy's film. Through interviews and by following him in his work, we enter the depths of his visions and working method. He has a lot more to say about the issues dealt with in this film, than is understood by watching 'You, the Living'. Our film will go further and deeper into Roy's way of thinking and show more of Roy's philosophy and his political views and you will also get to know more about who Roy Andersson actually is and why he makes the film he makes…

The filmmakers Pehr Arte & Johan Carlsson began in June 2003, a documentary about Roy Andersson and planned to follow him throughout his work with his fourth feature film 'You, The Living'. They followed this creative process for four years until the premiere in Cannes 2007. When they started to edit this massive material in 2008 (a raw material that was over 150 hours consisting of interviews, travel, script work, movie reviews, meetings, planning, stage construction, casting, shooting, music recording, audio mix and the premiere in Cannes), it appeared that they had different views on what kind of movie they wanted to do and how they imagined the finished film would look like. They decided, therefore, in the spring of 2009 to make two films of this material. However, they are both creators and producers of both versions. Johan Carlsson's film 'Tomorrow's Another Day' addresses Roy's creative process, his relationship with the team and Roys production company - Studio 24. This version was shown at MOMA in New York in September 2009 and on the Swedish Television/ K-Special in May 2010. Pehr Artes movie 'LIVE, HUMAN ...as long as you possibly can' is also about Roy's creative process, but focus more on who is Roy Andersson, what drives him and why he makes the films he makes. We also get to know Roy on a more political and philosophical level. Since both versions use the same footage, there are similarities and common denominators, but the contents are sufficiently distinct to warrant two movies, two filmmakers' interpretations of a director - ROY ANDERSSON
