Synopsis:
At a secret airbase in northern Sweden, computer programmer Lasse Brunell (Shanti Roney) works on a defense system for the JAS Gripen fighter plane. When foreign military brass come for a demo, some baddies tell Brunell they'll start killing his family unless he helps steal the software. Both Brunell's wife, Inger (Maria Bonnevie), and a war veteran, Haglund (co-scripter Stefan Sauk), suspect something fishy. It turns out the villains' leader, Jacec (Dejan Cukic), has been Haglund's sworn enemy since the Bosnian War. Only Roney comes off well, as a non-violent man torn between patriotic duty and family love. Bonnevie just looks scared and Sauk plays Haglund as a macho cliche.

A programmer who's working with the secret EWS computer system at a military air force base is threaten by foreign agents, along with his family. His only chance of rescue seems to be the war veteran Haglund who is a leader of a special taskforce.

The Threat is standard action fare with aspirations to be a Swedish "Top Gun." Though pic has a bright pace and good flying sequences -- with Olof Johnson's widescreen lensing capturing the beauty of the harsh landscape -- all the important sequences take place on the ground, where the story is too thin to really hook auds. Latest outing by Kjell Sundvall ("The Hunters," "The Guy in the Grave Next Door") performed well but not outstandingly on February release.
