Synopsis:

The film focuses on six women in Los Angeles as their lives become intertwined in the course of 24 hours. Porn star Elektra Luxx (Carla Gugino) discovers she is pregnant. Leaving her doctor's office, she gets stuck in an elevator with Doris (Connie Britton), sister to Addy (Caitlin Keats). Addy has recently started taking her daughter, Charlotte, to see her therapist, Maxine (Sarah Clarke) (While secretly using the visit to sleep with the therapist's husband, upon choosing to follow her therapist's advice to "live with more risk."). Upon finding out about her husband's secret during a therapy session with Charlotte, Maxine rushes out and gets into her car. While backing out, she hits Holly Rocket (Adrianne Palicki), adult film star. Holly and Bambi (Emmanuelle Chriqui) were running to safety after a session with one of Bambi's clients is interrupted. Meanwhile, flight attendant Cora (Marley Shelton) finds herself the object of rock star Nick Chapel's (Josh Brolin) affection on a flight to his band's upcoming show.

Several women (and one girl) in L.A. are hiding something from someone else, or discovering something hidden from them. Maxine, a therapist, discovers her husband cheating on her with the mother of Charlotte, a 13-year old patient. Addy (the other woman) and her sister Doris have withheld from the girl the truth of her parentage. Holly, an adult film actor, isn't telling her friend Bambi how she feels about her, and another actor, Elektra, who discovers she's pregnant, hasn't told the baby's father that she loves him. A stuck elevator, a car crash, mid-air turbulence, a flight attendant, a shotgun-wielding bartender, and her roommate, who's a masseuse, help these women communicate.

Sebastian Gutierrez's entertaining and determinedly racy "Women in Trouble" has a lot going for it, despite its modest budget, little-known cast and reported 12-day shooting schedule. The title alone suggests Pedro Almodovar, and while Gutierrez similarly can mine an extravagant multi-character soap opera plot for both outrageous hilarity and surprising depth, he is more interested in creating an irresistible entertainment that affords nine talented actresses sensational roles than in projecting a vision laced with irony in the Almodovar manner.
