Synopsis:

This documentary follows the work of restoring the fabled 'Vasa' , the Royal Swedish Navy's most expensive ship, commissioned by royal edict. The ship sank on her maiden voyage in the Stockholm harbour on the 10th August, 1628. This film shows the treasure trove recovered from the wreck and the reconstruction of the salvaged ship.

Anders Wahlgren's two-part documentary shows the everyday life of people from 400 years ago, when the big ship "Vasa" was built. We're following the people's fate in a hard time and during their life in the shadows of a war, which is nowadays known as the "Thirty Years' War". At that time Stockholm was a little and dangerous capital with about 15,000 inhabitants. The shipyard was the biggest employer, managed by Margareta Hybertsson.
