Synopsis:
At the moment the precise instant we fall in love, a particular music plays within us. For every one of us,the music is different and can strike up when we least expect... Through a series of vignettes in which all things romantic and sexual are discussed and obsessed over, The Art of Love follows the intertwining lives, loves and lusts of a group of Parisians. Isabelle has not had sex in a year. She declines an offer from her friend Zoe to borrow her husband and instead winds up impersonating another friend in a blind affair where identities remain secret. Singleton Achille thinks his prayers have been answered when his sexy new neighbour knocks on his door in a negligee. Then there is a middle-aged couple whose marriage is threatened when wife Emmanuelle finds herself lusting after every attractive man she lays eyes upon. All while a pair of young lovers discover the pangs of jealousy. Will lust or love triumph in this playful romantic comedy?

Nothing comes naturally to the would-be romantics of this fanciful French farce, despite living in the world capitol of amour. Isabelle hasn't had sex in a year and reluctantly lets herself be set up by a friend, but insists on pretending to be someone else. Ladies' man Achille thinks he's in luck when his sexy new neighbor knocks on his door, only to be driven mad by her mixed signals. A middle-aged couple finds their marriage threatened when wife Emmanuelle finds herself lusting after every strange man she meets. And a pair of young lovers, William and Vanessa, insist that they trust one another absolutely-until they don't. Star-crossed lovers abound and bourgeois bed-hopping has never been so complicated. But with the aid of a top-notch cast, including François Cluzet and Juliette Depardieu, SIFF favorite Emmanuel Mouret (Shall We Kiss?, Please, Please Me!) is back to teach us The Art of Love.

Following a string of charming comedies spiced with wacky Gallic flavor, helmer Emmanuel Mouret loses his way among the bourgeois bedrooms and turns out a clunker with 'The Art of Love.' The decision to tackle more stories than he could handle is only one of the problems with this tedious lovers' farce, in which adults behave like silly children while obsessing over their sex lives. Mouret's rep and stellar cast mean local biz should be strong following a projected late November opening, but it will take more than art for 'Love' to transcend borders.
