Synopsis:
Three Classic Films Inspired by the Master Novelist! A literary master of the 20th century, D.H. Lawrences infamous and ground breaking novels have been consistently adapted to the screen for their compelling characters and dramatic intensity. Here, in one DVD collection, are three classic film adaptations of essential D. H. Lawrence stories, including:
Sons and Lovers (1960) - a masterful interpretation of D.H. Lawrences epic novel, that won the Academy Award for cinematography in 1960
Priest of Love (1981) - This biographical film provides insight into the life of the renowned British author played by Ian McKellen (Lord of the Rings)
Kangaroo (1986) In the 1920s, a couple (Colin Friels and Judy Davis) forced to leave England for Australia battle politics and personal strife

Sons and Lovers (1960)
The Motion Picture Production Code was still in effect (albeit weakly) when Sons and Lovers was filmed in 1960, so don't expect a thoroughly frank and faithful adaptation of the D.H. Lawrence novel. Set in an English mining town, the film focuses on Paul Morel (Dean Stockwell), the sensitive son of a roughhewn, alcoholic miner (Trevor Howard) and his gentle, repressed wife (Wendy Hiller). Intent on becoming an artist, Paul is not above depending upon the financial kindnesses of the young women of the town. Many of the girls carry a torch for him, but his strong bonds to his mother leave him emotionally sapped. Freddie Francis's evocative, grimy industrial-town cinematography won him an Academy Award. Despite censorial restrictions, this admirably captures the essence of the dour Lawrence original.

Priest of Love (1981)
Following the banning and burning of his novel, 'The Rainbow,' D.H. Lawrence and his wife, Frieda, move to the United States, and then to Mexico. When Lawrence contracts tuberculosis, they return to England for a short time, then to Italy, where Lawrence writes 'Lady Chatterley's Lover.'

Kangaroo (1987)
A mild-mannered English conscientious objector moves to what he feels will be the relative calm of Australia after World War I, but gets caught in the middle of violent battles between the rising trade unions and fascist groups.
