Synopsis:
Season 1
Episode 1:
A massive police search leads to the body of a missing five-year-old, the victim of sexual assault and strangulation. All the evidence points to a local drunkard being the guilty party - but as the case goes to trial it becomes clear that the outcome is by no means assured. Gripping crime drama by Lynda La Plante, starring David Hayman, Kate Buffery, Helen McCrory and Rhys Ifans.
Episode 2:
The prosecution case looks like it could fall apart at any moment as the murder trial commences. Defence barrister Robert Rylands is confident his client Michael Dunn will get off - a possibility which looks increasingly likely as PC Barridge confesses to planting incriminating evidence. Lynda La Plante's crime drama, starring Corin Redgrave, David Hayman and Rhys Ifans.

Episode #1.1
S1, Ep1 Oct. 19, 1997
A drama of a child murder from the discovery of the crime to police investigation, then through the ensuing trial.

Episode #1.2
S1, Ep2 Oct. 20, 1997
Dunn's trial does not, initially, go well for the police due to tainted evidence - the washing line that supposedly strangled Julie as planted. Also an alibi turns up and a Not Guilty verdict seems likely. However the alibi cannot account for Dunn's whereabouts at the time of the murder and there is mention of a blue sherry bottle supposedly used in the murder. The hunt is on to find that bottle and hopefully use it as evidence.

Trial & Retribution is a feature-length ITV police procedural television drama series that began in 1997. It was devised and written by Lynda La Plante as a follow-on from her successful television series Prime Suspect. Each episode of the Trial & Retribution series is broadcast over two nights.
