Synopsis:
How the bickering kingdoms of Europe triggered a war that would rage for 4 years and result in over 37 million casualties. Using rare archive footage, this extraordinary documentary tells the story of the origins of the world's first global war. Based on Barbara Tuchman's Pulitzer Prize-winning bestseller, the film shows the rivalry between the various Royal Houses in Europe leading up to the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand - which triggered the catastrophe to come. And, it presents the failed attempts to avoid the conflict that followed, catapulting the world into what became known as 'the war to end all wars', ultimately leading to over 37 million casualties around the world.

Using rare archive footage, this documentary tells the story of World War I. The film shows the rivalry between the various royalty in Europe leading up to the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand and the failed attempts to avoid the war that followed. It then goes on to show German attrocities as they invade Belgium and France, and how incompetent leaders on both sides cost the lives of millions of men.

Traces the origins and actions of World War I, from the funeral of Britain's King Edward VII to the Versailles Treaty.
