Synopsis:
Scotland Yard was perhaps the best-known series to emerge from Anglo-Amalgamated's output of crime drama. Shot as cinema support features at the company's Merton Park Studios in South Wimbledon, these half-hour thrillers - based on real-life cases from the vaults of London's Metropolitan Police headquarters - were a successful regular feature in cinemas over nearly a decade from the early 1950s onwards. Like sister series Scales of Justice (also available from Network), Scotland Yard is introduced by celebrated writer and criminologist Edgar Lustgarten and presents case after intriguing case, with many solved onscreen by the redoubtable Inspector Duggan (played by Australian-born Russell Napier). This set comprises all 39 films, also featuring appearances by Harry H. Corbett, Peter Bowles, John Le Mesurier, Peter Arne and Robert Raglan, among many others.

Scotland Yard (also known as 'Case Histories of Scotland Yard') is a series of 39 half-hour long 'B' features (i.e., B movies: short films produced to support the main feature in a cinema double-bill), produced between 1953 and 1961, which eventually found a new audience on television in both the UK and the US. The episodes focus on true crimes, and feature an introduction by the criminologist Edgar Lustgarten. All of the episodes were shot at Merton Park Studios. The format followed a similar line to that established in the 1938 BBC series Telecrimes. Telecrimes featured 15 minute dramatisations of true crimes bookended with an intro and outro by a Scotland Yard inspector. Like Telecrimes, Scotland Yard is essentially a police procedural drama documentary which has some similarities with the semidocumentary film noir pictures being produced in America at roughly the same time (e.g., Jules Dassin's The Naked City, 1948).
