Synopsis:
The aircraft carrier 'Kiev' was once the pride and symbol of the Soviet Navy. Decommissioned in 1994 the rusting ship began her final voyage to end her days as a tourists theme park in China. Holzhausen, who has tracked the story of the 'Kiev' for more than five years, presents the men who served aboard her since 1972 as the focal point of the film. With the fall of the Soviet Union these men have lost their places in society. The 'Kiev' has long since existed only in remembrance, a ghost ship which sails on through the dreams of her former crew.

Once the pride of the Soviet fleet, the aircraft carrier Kiev sets off on its final voyage - being towed to China. The collapse of the Soviet Union also robbed former crew members of their place in society. For them, the Kiev has long faded into a visual memento, a ghost ship that constantly sails through its protagonists' dreams. ON THE SEVEN SEAS offers a differentiated picture of a sunken superpower, with all the contradictions and the lack of orientation that followed. "The flag is already badly frayed," an ex-crew-member says. "So too are our lives".

Documentary. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, nearly all Russia's warships were gradually sold off. This film follows the fate of aircraft carrier 'Kiev' - being towed to China. Shows how former crew members have been robbed of their place in society.
