Bertrand is himself interested in a girl named Sophie. He tries to approach her, but his shyness is paralyzing. Guillaume says that girls like to be forced, but that is not in accordance with Bertrand's mentality. Guillaume involves Bertrand in a new scheme concerning Suzanne. They tell her that they are broke, and for some weeks they cheat her to pay all their amusements. It ends up in Suzanne being broke and even losing her job. Some months later she is married. A chance meeting with an amoral old friend (Antoine Vitez) the same night places him in a potentially compromising situation when he's forced to spend the night with Vitez's alluring acquaintance Maude (Françoise Fabian), a sophisticated woman who challenges Trintignant's belief through intellectual and fleshly means.

As he says in a voice-over, ''I feel marriage closes me in, cloisters me, and I want to escape.'' His escape comes to him in the form of Chloé (Zouzou), a woman from his past. Chloé had left for America as a successful model but has now returned to Paris, bored with her life and saddled with a man she doesn't love. Although Frédéric is reluctant to see her at first, they agree to meet in the afternoons -- just to talk. He feels a freedom with her that he doesn't experience with anyone else because they have, he thinks, no commitments to each other. So, they talk of their problems and their relationships and, before long, Frédéric finds that he is becoming increasingly attracted to her.

When Clarisse asks her who the man is, Sabine says that she doesn't know yet. Finding a man is not the problem, but to get a good marriage. Clarisse argues that it must start with love, but Sabine thinks that there's some will even in love. At a party Sabine is introduced by Clarisse to her cousin Edmond, a Parisian lawyer. Afterwards Clarisse claims that she saw a glow in both Edmond's and Sabine's eyes. She is sure it was love at first sight. Sabine protests, but Clarisse advises her to approach Edmond. Sabine phones him and invites him to Le Mans. He is very busy, but comes after some hesitation. They meet twice and Sabine interprets his attitude as being in love with her. She explains to everyone that she is going to marry Edmond. But nothing happens. He doesn't contact her. In the night, they go to a casino and Marion has one night stand with Henri, feeling a great passion for him. However, Henri is a wolf and has no interest in having any commitment with Marion. The story opens with the proverb, 'He who has two women loses his soul. He who has two houses loses his mind,' and centers on Louise (Pascale Ogier) and her live-in lover, Remi (Tchéky Karyo), a Paris architect and noted tennis player. Their relationship hits an important juncture when Remi decides he wants to get married, while Louise wants to continue living the life of a party girl. Eventually, Louise decides to escape her lover's oppression and become intimate with loneliness, so she moves to Paris where she makes complex plans to have her cake and eat it too. Unfortunately, things don't go exactly as planned as she finds herself the object of an amiable writer's affections.

Next, it's the beach: once there, she chats with an outgoing Swede, a party girl, and a friendship seems to bud; then, suddenly, Delphine bolts, heading back to Paris. Once alone, what determines how they choose to act? And the necklace, what of it?
A Tale of Winter / Conte d'hiver (1992)
A Tale of Winter is the second installment in Eric Rohmer's Tales of the Four Seasons. Félicie (Charlotte Véry) and Charles (Frédéric Van Den Driessche) had a brief affair during a seaside vacation. Then Charles went abroad on business, and Félicie gave him her address so they could stay in touch; however, she made an unexplainable mistake in the address and has lost all trace of her lover. Five years later, she is still single and raising a daughter by Charles. Though she is courted both by her no-nonsense boss, Maxence (Michel Voletti), and her highbrow friend Loic (Hervé Furic), she is still in love with Charles and hopes to meet him again.
The Tree, the Mayor and the Mediatheque / L'arbre, le maire et la médiathèque (1993)
The mayor (Pascal Greggory) of this unpolished provincial town has plans for a beautiful field on the edge of town, and he's quite sure they will be put through the central government in time to help him with his political career. He intends to replace the field with a sports and ''cultural'' center, along with a large parking lot. The only overt opposition to this plan at the outset comes from an environmentally sensitive grammar school teacher (Fabrice Luchini), and he's hardly a threat, because he doesn't imagine he can successfully oppose the builders' designs. Meanwhile, the mayor has fallen in love with one of the local representatives of the intelligentsia, a woman novelist (Arielle Dombasle). Trouble begins to percolate into the mayor's life and thwart his plans when his daughter and the daughter of the schoolteacher become friends.

In the centre of part 3 of Rohmer's '4 Seasons-Cycle' stands a young man, Gaspard, who went to Dinard (a town by the sea in the Bretagne) because he hopes to meet the girl he thinks he is in love with - Lena. Shortly after his arrival he comes into contact with Margot who works as a servant at her aunt's creperie. He spends a long time with her, and discusses the way he feels about Lena but he hesitates to tell the truth about his relationship. The reason is that he isn't quite sure himself. Although he insists he loves Lena, doubts arise...

Her best friend (Marie Rivière) plots to pair her with a friendly businessman (Alain Libolt), while her son's girlfriend (Alexia Portal) schemes to introduce her to a high-school philosophy teacher.
