His lifelong dialogue with the wind and with water has given the world uniquely beautiful works of fluid, unpredictable and ever-changing movement. Susumu renders visible the veiled and the unseen and opens to us new perspectives. Thomas Riedelsheimer accompanies this quiet and unassuming man in pursuit of a dream, a quest to create an awareness of our planet, our breathing earth and our human values. Breathing Earth is a film about the wind, the philosophy of a wise person, about art and love and dreams.

Director Thomas Riedelsheimer, whose previous work includes the documentary Rivers and Tides-profiling sculptor, photographer, and environmentalist, Andy Goldsworthy-here explores the works of kinetic sculptor and Japanese artist, Susumu Shingu. Creating his artwork in dialogue with nature, Shingu believes that wind is an absolute and that it speaks to him. His sculptures convey the wonder of nature by translating its messages into movement. The artist dreams of a place where sustainability and art collide, and of creating a wind-powered village where his graceful wind and water sculptures can breathe with the earth. His quest to create an awareness of our planet, our breathing earth, and our human values is documented in this gorgeous film.
