Synopsis:

Rick (Andrew Lee Potts - Primeval), a promising young artist, inadvertently enters an active crime scene and is gunned down in central Vienna by hired assassin, Andrei Loesin (Dougray Scott - Mission Impossible II). When Andrei visits the opening of a show of the dead artist he becomes fascinated with his life and starts a relationship with Rick's sister, Paula (Laura Elena Harring - Mulholland Drive). Detective Inspector Vashon (Jurgen Prochnow - Das Boot) investigates the murder. Can Andrei free himself from the relationship before Vashon catches him or will Andrei confess his crime to Paula? The Poet is a lyrical tragedy set in France, Austria and Germany, poetically directed by Paul Hills (Boston Kickout, Do Elephants Play).

In central Vienna, young artist Rick (Andrew Lee Potts), whose work is heavily influenced by death, is shot and killed simply for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. He has accidently walked into a crime scene where hitman Andrei (Dougray Scott) has been hired to kill a man. Of course, as Rick has seen Andrei kill, he must now be killed, too. When Andrei then visits the opening of Rick's art show, he becomes involved in a relationship with Rick's sister, Paula (Laura Elena Harring). All the while, Detective Inspector Vashon (Jürgen Prochnow) is investigating the murder. Will he catch up with Andrei, and will Paula find out that Andrei killed her brother?

The Poet is the nickname of Andrei (Scott), an assassin for hire. During a job in Vienna he is forced to kill an eyewitness (Potts). The victim turns out to be a young artist/photographer called Rick. Andrei visits the opening of his last show and meets Paula (Harring), Rick's sister. Andrei soon falls in love with Paula and tries to leave his life behind but a detective called Vashon (Prochnow) is determined to catch him.
