Synopsis:

Erica's sister Anna is visiting at the same time as the TV program 'Antiques cubed' is in town to record at the castle in Fjällbacka. When Anna runs into the TV host for the show, Claes Wager, sparks quickly evolve into a flirt between the two of them. During preparation at the castle Anna is the one to find Linda Hamrin unconscious from an overdose of medicine. Both Erica and Patrik are dragged into the case when only a day later a man, Hasse Wennerman, is killed and the rumors of an affair that led to Linda's overdose spiral up into a big conflict. The old painting, Hasse Wennerman brought to the antique show, is also missing and when it is found among Annas belongings, Erica gets a hard time trying to prove her sisters innocence.

A well-to-do businessman is murdered, and it turns out that Erica's sister Anna was hired to decorate the murder victim's luxurious beach house and was the last person to see him alive. Patrik now faces the delicate task of having to question his own sister-in-law. Things get even worse when Anna breaks down and confesses to Patrik that she spent the night with the murder victim. The questions multiply and grow in complexity when Patrik realises that her common-law husband Dan had gotten wind of the affair. Did Dan murder the businessman out of jealousy? Patrik ends up in an extremely difficult position with regard to his wife Erica - he can't say anything to her about the investigation, and Erica can't understand why he's 'harassing' her family. To Patrik's dismay, Erica starts to search for the truth herself and realises to her own dismay that Anna not only had a relationship with the murder victim but that he, unbeknownst to Anna, had hidden the priceless painting that caused his death at her house. And there's only one other person who knows about it.

Erica's agent comes up with the idea that Erica should base her new book on a real case for a change. Erica starts loooking into the disappearance of an old schoolmate back in the 70s, but when the missing boy's brother is murdered just after she's interviewed him, Erica realises that she has hit upon something dark and unresolved. Naturally, the murder ends up on Patrik's desk, but Erica is plagued by feelings of guilt, and therefore tries to solve the murder herself and find the truth behind her old schoolmate's disappearance. A tragic case of bullying comes to light in which a number of people have everything to gain from burying the truth and anyone who can point the finger at them. When Erica gets on the trail of the perpetrators, the threat is turned on Erica and her family. Following a dramatic resolution, the murderer is finally brought to justice, and Erica decides not to finish writing the book. Inventing detective stories seems a much better way to go. Reality can be so dangerous to your health.
