Synopsis:

The Christmas Party is a comedy about the aftermath of a failed bank robbery on a summer's night. It is midsummer. Mike is getting out of jail four years after a bank robbery, which he made with his brother Bona and his best friend Joukka. Now that Mike is coming home, Bona is arranging the party of all parties for him: a Christmas party. There is one problem: Mike was the only one who got caught, and while he was in jail, Bona married the girlfriend. Joukka has a secret too: he has squandered all the money on drink. And Hamalainen, invited to the party as Santa Claus, had screwed up the arrangements for the robbery. Nobody knows about the others' secrets, and the party is ready to begin.

Joulubileet (The Christmas Party) might well be the closest to the ultimate cult movie that the Finnish film industry has ever gotten. The third directorial effort of Jari Halonen, a clearly distinctive voice in the local filmmaking landscape, is a timeless, absurd and at times completely insane piece of masculine comedy rough not only on the edges, but to the core. A story of Mike, just out of prison, and his buddies throwing a Christmas party under the most obscure circumstances is filled with juicy dialogue and plot twists that will definitely make your jaw drop - and have you chuckle for days after.
