Synopsis:

This hugely endearing crime caper stars Charlie Drake as a mild-mannered locksmith whose talents land him in hot water when he's recruited by a criminal gang; Nyree Dawn Porter is the beautiful girl who spells his downfall, with Oscar winner George Sanders as rival crime boss 'the Guv'nor' opposite Dennis Price (Kind Hearts and Coronets' villainous aristocratic outcast). The Cracksman is presented here in a brand-new transfer from the original film elements in its as-exhibited theatrical aspect ratio. Ernest Wright's peerless prowess as a locksmith comes to the attention of a tough big-time crook, who feels that the little man would be a valuable asset to his crime kingdom. In order to inveigle him into a series of jobs, he sets up a beautiful hostess as a trap, into which the hapless Ernest inevitably falls...!

Charlie Drake plays an honest locksmith whose problem is that he cannot resist the challenge of a lock. He gets smoothtalked into a safecracking scheme by a couple of ruthless gangsters. He is duped by a debonair con man into opening a car and safe, and lands in jail for a year. He is released, but gets trapped again. He finds himself as a pawn being manipulated by two gangs, and receives a three year jail sentence and an undeserved reputation as a master thief. With the help of undercover police woman, played by Nyree Dawn Porter, he helps trap the crooks and clear his name.

A shorty, kind, very innocent and efficient locksmith is cheated by a burglar in order to rob a car and to open a safe strongbox. The police catches him and is sent to jail. Once there some gangsters gain his friendship to cheat him again and help then to escape.
