Synopsis:

Ken Stott, Lesley Manville, Kevin Whately and Adrian Scarborough are among the stars of this powerful, highly original drama of love and redemption, originally screened at Christmas in 2003. Mike is an ordinary man who, finding life and failure too difficult to handle, has slipped into alcoholism and finally homelessness. Then one day, amongst Christmas shoppers and revellers, he sees Salvation Army Captain Annie Walsh. He lurches across the street towards her, and into the path of a bus... Annie runs to his side and comforts him; a crowd assembles, and an ambulance is called. Miraculously, Mike recovers from the injuries sustained in the accident, but has no memory of who he is. One day, he turns up on the doorstep of the detox centre that Annie runs and she takes him in, despite the reservations of her superior and fiancé, Major Hurst. Seeing in Annie his last chance to live and love, Mike decides he must go through the agony of detoxification to make himself worthy of her.

Mike (Ken Stott) is a drunk, weighed down by life's disappointments but he sees a vision and it changes his life forever. The vision is Salvation Army Captain, Annie (Lesley Manville) and Mike's love for her hits him like a double-decker bus. Quite literally! Mike's run in with the bus leaves him hospitalised and suffering from amnesia and he recovers from his injuries with no recollection of his past - except for Annie. Thus clinging to his vision, our hero re-discovers his new-found love and commits himself to the de-tox centre she runs in her Salvation Army capacity and determines to get his life back on track for her. But Mike's passion for Annie and his determination to win her approval is noticed by Annie's superior, Major Hurst (Kevin Whately), who also happens to be her fiance.

Richard Spence directs this made-for-TV drama starring Ken Stott, Lesley Manville and Kevin Whately. Set during the festive period, the feature follows Mike (Stott), a cheerfully roguish type whose charm has gradually eroded over the years courtesy of his addiction to alcohol. However, Mike's involvement in a road accident changes his perspective on life. He begins visiting a Salvation Army shelter where he falls in love with Captain Annie Sullivan (Manville) and begins dreaming of a second chance. Will Mike win his heart's desire or does another fate lie in store for him?
