Synopsis:
Triple bill of television dramas based on the novels by Maeve Binchy. In 'The Lilac Bus' (1990) Con O'Neill plays Tom, a bus driver who drives his lilac-coloured bus from Dublin to Rathdoon every Friday evening. Taking a ride are five passengers who have all reached crossroads in their lives: Judy (Stephanie Beacham), who works in a health food shop, Dee (Beatie Edney), a law student, Nancy (Rynagh O'Grady), with a reputation for meaness, Celia (Dervla Kirwan), a nurse, and Mikey (Brendan Conroy), a bank porter. In 'Anner House' (2007), after Irishman Neil Barry (Liam Cunningham) gets divorced from his wife and loses custody of his children, he decides to leave Ireland and move to Cape Town. There, he meets another Irish woman, Ruth Maguire (Flora Montgomery), who is also attempting to extricate herself from an unhappy relationship. Together, the pair embark on a journey of self-healing and personal discovery, culminating in them opening a boutique hotel which they name Anner House. In 'Echoes' (1988), in the 1950s town of Castlebay, Ireland, young student Clare O'Brien (Siobhan Garahy) dreams of going to University, but is constantly hampered by her narrow-minded mother Agnes. With the encouragement of local teacher Angela O'Hara (Geraldine James), Clare eventually leaves to study in Dublin, where she begins a romance with fellow student David Power (Robert Hines). However, David has a rival for Clare's love in the unwholesome form of Gerry Doyle (Stephen Holland). Back at home, Angela faces censure from the town gossips over her relationship with a recovering alcoholic.

Anner House (2007)
Anner House is a romantic story of dreams and aspirations. Neil Barry leaves Ireland after a bitter divorce and custody battle to face the demons of his alcoholism in another place, Cape Town. A chance meeting with an Irish woman, named Ruth Maguire, also trying to extricate herself from an unhappy relationship with Nicky helps him embark on a journey of self-healing and personal discovery. Inspired by the colorful locals they encounter, and the magical places they visit, Neil helps Ruth fulfill her dream, to open a boutique hotel set against the stunning Cape landscape. They decide to call it 'Anner House'. Of course the dream has its own obstacles - their personal predicaments plus coping with the social problems unique to Cape Town. But in the end it becomes clear to Neil and Ruth that they are the solutions to their own problems and the mutual attraction that sparked between them when they first met becomes irresistible.

He and Clare fall in love despite the class difference that his mother abhors. But David isn't the only one who loves Clare-she has also become the focal point of Gerry Doyle's unhealthy attention. Soon, everything gets more complicated as Clare and David are forced to make serious decisions that bring them back home. In the meantime, Angela deals with her wayward priest of a brother, town gossips, and grows closer to Dick Dillon, a recovering alcoholic. Will anyone find happiness in Castle Bay?
