Synopsis:
Claus Baade, a young Communistic government worker in the German Democratic Republic, is sent to a small farming village to implement the collective system. The farmers have not agreed to collectivize their lands, and one of them, Hermann Gueden, fights with Baade. Gueden decides to leave Communist society and is given a ride to West Berlin by Doris Lange, a Swiss journalist. With Baade, who has fallen out of favor with the Communists, the two manage to escape over the border into the free city.

The German Democratic Republic has just been established as a socialist state, and the ruling Socialist Unity Party of Germany is ensuring that all business follows the socialist model. Claus Baade (Christian Doermer) is a government agent who travels to a village in Saxony-Anhalt to convert the land of an unwilling farmer (Narziss Sokatscheff) into a cooperative. But in speaking to the disgruntled farmer, he's convinced to assist the man in escaping across the East/West border.
