Synopsis:

Sarah Thompson, an American visiting England, meets and marries William Whitfield, the Duke of Whitfield. They settle in a chateau in France and begin a family. World War II interrupts their happiness and alters their future. After the war, the family helps war survivors by buying their jewelry and eventually opens a jewelry store, which rapidly becomes a success. But conflicts abound as new generations arise and forces from both outside and within threaten the store and the family.

Annette O'Toole, Anthony Andrews and Jrgen Prochnow star in this 1992 miniseries adapted from Danielle Steel's novel about divorce Sarah Thompson (O'Toole), who travels to Europe and weds William, the Duke of Whitfield (Andrews). Though World War II intrudes on their bliss, the couple opens a lucrative jewelry store upon William's return -- but when he dies, Sarah is left to run the business and contend with her problematic children.

Story about a woman who finds a duke in Europe to buy her a house in France, which she has to share with the Nazis soon, while he is away. She nearly falls with the commandant and when her husband comes back as a cripple, their son never forgives her the complicity with the enemy.
