Synopsis:

Collection of films directed by acclaimed French film-maker Leos Carax. The thriller 'The Night is Young' (1986), follows petty thief and street hustler Alex (Denis Lavant) plotting to steal a new miracle cure for an AIDS-like virus on behalf of his gangster friend Marc (Michel Piccoli), attracting the notice of a mysterious American woman who also wants the serum. In 'Holy Motors' (2012), Lavant stars as the man of many identities Monsieur Oscar. Driven around Paris by his chauffeur Celine (Edith Scob), Oscar makes use of an elaborate dressing room in his limousine to assume the identity of a number of different characters. At various points throughout the journey he appears as a businessman, a beggar, an assassin, a father and an old woman and in each disguise steps out of his limousine to engage with the world while embarking on bizarre adventures that include kidnapping a beautiful model, Kay (Eva Mendes). But what exactly lies at the root of Oscar's extraordinary behaviour? 'Boy Meets Girl' (1984) is the darkly comic love story which involves two strangers (Lavant and Mireille Perrier) who are destined to meet after their relationships break down. The collection also contains the documentary exploration of writer and director Carax, entitled 'Mr X' (2014).

Boy Meets Girl (1984)
Paris by night. Alex, 22, wants to become a filmmaker. He is fascinated by first times and his girlfriend, Florence, has just left him for his best friend, Thomas. First break-up, first attempted murder: Alex tries to strangle Thomas, but gives up and wanders the streets. That evening, Mireille, a girl from provincial France who has come up to Paris to make commercials, is left by her boyfriend. Alex witnesses this separation. These two tormented souls run into each other at a party....

In Paris in the near future. Aging thieves Marc and Hans owe money to a tough American woman who gives them two weeks to pay. They scheme to steal and sell a new serum for a disease that's killing lovers, but they need someone with quick steady hands. They recruit Alex, a disaffected youth who's breaking up with Lise, his 16-year-old girlfriend. In the few days before the theft, Alex becomes enchanted with Anna, Marc's young mistress. They talk, they play, they sing, but she's in love with Marc. Lise hasn't given up on Alex either, and she comes to Paris on the day of the theft. There are double crosses, a daring rescue, and, for Alex, a waiting plane. Will he make it?

The image of a mysterious, solitary filmmaker - a cineaste maudit - who flees from both the media and the public, is unrelentingly bound to the figure of Leos Carax, in France. Elsewhere, the real focus is on his films and he is considered to be an icon of world cinema. Mr.X dives into the poetic and visionary world of an artist who was already a cult figure from his very first film. Punctuated by interviews and unseen footage, this documentary is most of all a fine-tuned exploration of the poetic and visionary world of Leos Carax, alias "Mr.X".
