Synopsis:
In 1836, the young and visionary botanist Wulff is sent to Africa by the King of Denmark to establish coffee plantations. Behind him awaits the love of his life. Ahead an adventure into unknown territory that will change his young life forever. The slave trade no longer takes place at the Danish trading posts on the Gold Coast. But soon the locals ravage the plantations he sows, and Wulff starts to unravel a conspiracy that penetrates the very heart of the governorate.

The Gold Coast (Guldkysten), is a dense and visceral exploration of a dark time in European history, namely the Danish involvement in the slave trade on the African coast during the 1830s. Undoubtedly a politically charged affair, this film is also an intense portrait of obsession and individual morality.

In 1836 the Danish romantic visionary Wulff travels to Africa to create plantations on the Gold Coast, but his best intentions and belief is soon confronted with a harsh reality dominated by slave trade and unbelievable brutality.
