Synopsis:
Documentary directed by Laura Gabbert centering on the professional and personal life of unconventional food critic Jonathan Gold. Gold, who won the first Pulitzer Prize for food criticism in 2007, is famous for reviewing low-key restaurants and food stalls producing diverse cuisine from different cultures across Los Angeles. For Gold, seeking out little known food vendors means deepening his relationship and connection with the city he loves, taking a strong philosophical and contemplative approach.

CITY OF GOLD is about the transformative power of food and food writing in how we experience where we live. Pulitzer Prize winning critic, Jonathan Gold, is our VIrgilian guide, casting his light upon a vibrant and growing cultural movement, a movement in which he plays the dual roles of high-low priest and culinary geographer of his beloved Los Angeles.

A documentary portrait that takes us into Jonathan Gold's universe to tell the improbable story of a revolution inspired by the pen, but driven by the palate.
