Synopsis:
Originally aired at ABC TV, Press Gang was a BAFTA Award-winning series chronicling the world of youth newspaper the Junior Gazette, run by high school students in the fictional city of Norbridge. In certain circles, Press Gang creator Steven Moffat is a god. The sole writer of the show's 43 episodes, he recently admitted that even 12 years after its demise, he is still showered with praise for what was his first gig writing for TV. When I'm talking to someone about the right age, Moffat told BBC1 in December, and they ask what I've written, and I mention Press Gang, suddenly I'm a heroWhat is it about Press Gang that, to this day, elicits such fawning? Imagine a teenage version of Moonlighting (1985) by way of All the President's Men (1976), with a hint of The Hardy Boys (1977), and you're halfway towards describing this award-winning series about a motley bunch of students running a youth newspaper. Considered ground-breaking in its day for tackling issues such as teen suicide, sexual abuse, adultery, and drug addiction over the course of its five-year run, the show is renowned in its native U.K. for doing something kid television at the time didn't do (and, arguably, still doesn't): it refused to treat its audience like children.

Press Gang is a British children's television comedy-drama consisting of 43 episodes across five seasons that were broadcast from 1989 to 1993. It was produced by Richmond Film & Television for Central, and screened on the ITV network in its regular weekday afternoon children's strand, Children's ITV, typically in a 4:45 pm slot (days varied over the course of the run).

Aimed at older children and teenagers, the programme was based on the activities of a children's newspaper, the Junior Gazette, produced by pupils from the local comprehensive school. In later seasons it was depicted as a commercial venture. The show interspersed comedic elements with the dramatic. As well as addressing interpersonal relationships (particularly in the Lynda-Spike story arc), the show tackled issues such as solvent abuse, child abuse and firearms control.

A bunch of kids are to make a newspaper for the young, named 'Junior Gazette'. The series follows these kids both on job and in private.
