Synopsis:

Claudia (Lauren Holly) is a small town girl, trapped in a small town. She's got a man who loves her (Jon Bon Jovi) and a family who needs her. But somewhere inside is a voice that says -- it could have been different -- a voice that gets louder when Charlie (Edward Burns) comes home. What can you do when the lover who left you walks back in the door? What can you feel when your mind says one thing and your body says another? Where can you turn in a small town where everybody knows you, but nobody knows about what you want? There's passion in the past, and there's danger. For some people, life is built like a house of cards and it only takes an open door to blow it all away. But once that door is open, there is No Looking Back.

Claudia has lived all her life in a small, seaside, blue-collar town, hanging out with the same group of friends since grade school. Now she's waiting tables in a greasy spoon to help support her mother. After three years together, her live-in boyfriend, Michael, is eager to tie the knot. Their life together is comfortable and Michael loves her. But Claudia has dreams of life beyond her home town and is afraid that if she marries now, she'll never realize them. Claudia's sister Kelly lives with her mother and struggles with good humor to care for her fatherless baby. Their mother hasn't left the house since Claudia's dad walked out on the family six months ago. No one understands why Claudia sympathizes with her renegade father, like him, she has a wild, restless streak and longs for more. But she can't quite put her finger on what it is she wants. So when her old flame, Charlie, returns from out west, she begins to wonder... maybe he's the answer.

Set in a seaside town, Claudia, a burnt-out waitress who's about to turn 30, is torn between her dreams and the lure of a middle-class life, especially when her dead-end life is altered by the reappearance of her ex-boyfriend, Charlie, who left abrubtly several years earlier. He takes a job at a garage and makes a point of seeking out Claudia--first at work, then at home. Claudia is flattered by his attention. Michael, Charlie's boyhood buddy, is wary. But, with Charlie apparently home to stay, Claudia is vulnerable to memories of their shared past together, and to the dreams that she still harbors.
