Synopsis:
Icarus's Drownings: Icarus' journeys from Antique Greece and its mythology, to Medieval Belgium and the paintings of Icarus' fall by Pieter Bruegel. D'après le naufrage: The film is based on the real drama of the French ship La Méduse at the end of the 18th century. Based on the painting by Théodore Géricault The Raft of the Medusa depicting humans in distress on a makeshift raft, the film develops four sequences (the storm, drownings, cannibalism and deliverance) around the scenes not revealed by the original painting . The film uses a narration of abstraction, claustrophobia and experimentation as visual emotions. The Tale of the Floating World: A monk reflects on his idyllic childhood and how the atom bomb annihilated that. Life turns from everyday pleasures, to a Hell on Earth of destruction, confusion and madness. A cultured lady playing her Koto in the garden, becomes a spirit ceaselessly roaming the wasteland like a ghost. People writhe and dance in agony. A samurai dreams of an honorable battle and awakes to the nightmare of no foe to face. People search for anything from their old life that makes sense, and find only sickness and chaos. Everything is left burning and ashen before fireworks in the sky, like tiny atoms in the air, explode to the end. L'objet du désir: A dreamlike vision of football and its world of lockers. A play between the sensuality of fragments of bodies and the damp spaces of the showers. Le radeau de la Méduse, Dérives: Dripping Ground Zero: Fontevraud, l'âme et la pierre:
