Synopsis:
Madame Jacques on the Croisette: As elderly Ashkenazi Jews gather for their afternoon of cards and chatting on Cannes' Croisette, two of them, both widowed, Monsieur Maurice and Madame Jacques are reunited by love ,at an age when one no longer expects it. Voyages: Riwka is 65 years old. His tour bus breaks down between Warsaw and Auschwitz. In the tumult of conversations in Yiddish, anxiety drives you to overflowing. Régine, the same age, thinks to find her old father, who has come to Paris from the other side of Europe. Vera, an 80-year-old Russian, the only one in the world, has just immigrated to Israel at the end of her life. In search of her lost cousin of sight for many years, from bus to bus, alone, foreign to everything, she is lost until exhaustion. And finally in a last bus, by chance, she meets Riwka. Casting: In the mid-1990s, while preparing the films 'Madame Jacques sur la Croisette' and 'Voyages', Emmanuel Finkiel organized a casting in the French Ashkenazi community. Speakers Yiddish aged sixty to ninety, the many candidates are bursting the screen. From interviews to comedy essays, everyone appropriates the text, comments, digresses. Very quickly, scenarios and memories, reality and fiction merge; the faces, the testimonies are superimposed to reveal a whole world both near and far.
