Synopsis:
A Hollywood legend like no other, Academy Award Winner John Wayne* remains a true American icon. On horseback in the wild west or in battle on the front lines, 'Duke' stands tall as the true Hollywood Legend he was . Showcasing together 10 of his classics films: SEVEN SINNERS: Bijou, a saloon singer with a reputation for inciting brouhahas, is one of several deportees from a south Pacific island to arrive at another U.S. protectorate, Boni Komba. She becomes very popular with U.S. navy men by performing at the 'Seven Sinners'. A navy Lieutenant is attracted to Bijou despite the Governor's machinations to keep them apart, and the competing affections of local mobster, Antro. Will the Lieutenant give up the navy for Bijou, and will he survive Antro's forces? SEA SPOILERS: Bob Randall, temporarily in command of the Coast Guard vessel Niobe, expects a promotion and the captaincy of his ship. Instead, he is replaced by Lieutenant Mays, son of the area commander. Mays is afflicted with a fear of the sea, although he has served well in Coast Guard aviation. His father, however, thinks Mays can overcome his fear by taking command of the Niobe. When seal poachers kidnap Bob Randall's girlfriend Connie, Bob and Mays disagree about the proper means of rescuing her and capturing the seal poachers. When Mays's inexperience and phobia foil their attempts at rescue, Bob comes up with his own plan. IN OLD CALIFORNIA: Boston pharmacist Tom Craig comes to Sacramento, where he runs afoul of local political boss Britt Dawson, who exacts protection payment from the citizenry. Dawson frames Craig with poisoned medicine, but Craig redeems himself during a Gold Rush epidemic. KING OF THE PECOS: When John Clayborn (John Wayne) was a child, he witnessed his parents being murdered by Alexander Stiles (Cy Kendall), the developer who wanted control over their land. Clayborn has grown up with one goal--to get revenge on Stiles. He becomes a lawyer, but, when the judge won't find Stiles guilty, Clayborn resorts to other methods of retaliation. He enlists other men who have been wronged by Stiles and together they take their guns and embark on a mission to hunt him down. LADY FOR A NIGHT: Jenny Blake is the owner of a gambling steamer on the Mississippi who yearns to be accepted into society. Marrying aristocratic bankrupt gambler Alan Alderson in return for cancelling his debts, she finds herself shunned by both his family and friends. Worse is to come when he is poisoned and she is accused of his murder, but her business partner Jack Morgan, who has always been in love with her, stands by her. WYOMING OUTLAW: With himself and his father out of work due to Balsinger who controls the jobs, Will Parker is stealing cattle to feed his family. The Mesquiteers try to help him out but he is caught and jailed. Escaping jail and eluding the ensuing manhunt, he heads for Balsinger and a showdown. REAP THE WILD WIND: Clipper ships taking the shortest route between the Mississippi and the Atlantic often end up on the shoals of Key West in the 1840s. Salvaging the ships' cargos has become a lucrative business for two companies -- one headed by a feisty young woman. Then she falls in love with the captain of a wrecked ship while he recuperates at her home. She travels to Charleston and is charming to the man most likely to be head of the captain's company, thinking she will be able to get the captain the position he wants on the company's first steam ship. PITTSBURGH: Charles 'Pittsburgh' Markham rides roughshod over his friends, his lovers, and his ideals in his trek toward financial success in the Pittsburgh steel industry, only to find himself deserted and lonely at the top. When his crash comes, he finds that fate has dealt him a second chance. ROOSTER COGBURN: A band of drunken thugs overruns a small village in the Indian Nation that is run by Minister Goodnight and his daughter Eula and proceed to violate and kill the villagers. Miss Goodnight teams up with ruthless Marshal Rooster J. Cogburn to go after them and bring them to justice. SHEPHERD OF THE HILLS: Young Matt Masters, an Ozark Mountains moonshiner, hates the father he has never seen, who apparently deserted Matt's mother and left her to die. His obsession contributes to the hatred rampant in the mountains. However, the arrival of a stranger, Daniel Howitt, begins to positively affect the mountain people, who learn to shed their hatred under his gentle influence.
