Synopsis:
Talking to a Strangers: A quartet of plays reveals a weekend as seen through the eyes of four different people. Keep an Eye on Amélie: Marcel will inherit one million francs - on his wedding day. Unwilling to give up his bachelorhood, but in dire need of cash, he persuades Amélie, a coquette and his friend's mistress, to act as his fiancée. Make and Break: Lots of pent up business people struggle to balance business with pleasure. Absolute Hell: Black comedy set in Soho, London, right after WW2. Half of the fun is seeing a slew of very familiar faces kick up their heels as gay men, lesbians, party-girls, drunks, and drag queens. The Cherry Orchard: Madame Lyubov Andreyevna Ranevsky (Peggy Ashcroft) is a spoiled aging aristocratic lady, who returns from a trip to Paris to face the loss of her magnificent Cherry Orchard estate after a default on the mortgage. In denial, she continues living in the past, deluding herself and her family, while the beautiful cherry trees are being axed down by the re-possessor Yermolai Alexeyevich Lopahin (George Murcell), her former serf, who has his own agenda. Going Gently: Two men in their 60s sharing a hospital room after their diagnoses of terminal cancer struggle with fear, physical pain, the difficulties of being in hospital, family members unable to cope, loneliness, and their unusual friendship. Can You Hear Me Thinking?: Judi Dench and her real-life husband, Michael Williams, play another married couple in this BAFTA-nominated tale of a family whose lives are shattered when their 16-year-old son develops schizophrenia. At first, he turns violent and has to be hospitalised. When he is released, the full implications of his illness strike home. Ghosts: Oswald Alving is dying. His mother is anxious to keep the precise nature of his illness a secret.
