Synopsis:
Dissolution Prologue (Extended Version): The central leitmotif investigated by Siegfried A. Fruhauf in his artistic works concerns the nature of film, its very essence. In Dissolution Prologue (Extended Version), this guiding principle leads to associated questions in terms of the medium's limitations and, as the title suggests, their dissolution: metaphorically, this concerns the idea of the curtain as emblematic of the cinematic and its veil of illusion that never conclusively closes but rather relentlessly opens. The visual composition signals "The show must go on," its conceptual linchpin once again pivoting on the idea of absolute film within the Fruhaufian reference system of filmhistory and cognitive theory. Thorax: It is not surprising that a heart is beating in that cinematic machine reminiscent of the vaulted tunnel of Cern, in which light particles are accelerated and collide to fathom time and space. Water and Clearing: Siegfried A. Fruhauf´s work is preoccupied with exploring the perception of cinematographic movement. Fruhauf often makes use of the individual image, whether in the form of film frames or photographs, which he collages via multiple exposure and structural montage into exhilarating motion studies. In Water and Clearing he pursues an inverse approach. The point of departure is provided by the recording of an actual tracking shot, which is a novelty for Fruhauf. Using individual stop-motion frames, the motion of the shot grows gradually more halting, while simultaneously becoming more dynamic. The shorter the intervals are, the more photographically foregrounded... Phantom Ride Phantom: From a "simple" camera pan through a journey into a ghostly realm, to a veritable trip: Phantom Ride Phantom carries out these three steps with cinematographic verve and great technical finesse. At the same time, the starting point for this phantom of a cinematic ghost ride is a single freeze frame, taken with a half-frame camera on an abandoned train track near Toulouse. FUDDY DUDDY: The right or 90-degree angle serves as a standard unit of order. Whether optimizing storage space, developing land or mapping the human body in ideal proportions, a grid serves as universal criteria. Squares stack into cubes; the pictorial surface is transformed into a relief in relation to a background of precise lines. In Siegfried A. Fruhauf´s FUDDY DUDDY, something resembling a big bang is seen, with an energy resulting from the struggle between order and chaos. Vintage Print: An old photograph forms the starting point of my exploration. The picture must have been taken towards the end of the 19th century, at a time when film had just been invented and pictures were only starting to move. Its origins date back to a phase of transition between the still and the moving image. By creating a wide variety of duplications of a single image I am trying to translate it into the temporal and contemporary nature of film. STILL DISSOLUTION: The title of this miniature heralds a series of tensions for which Siegfried A. Fruhauf has found a new form: Still Dissolution measures the relationship between photography and film, standstill and motion, formation and dissolution, now and then, and material reality and illusion, and does so in an interplay of analogue and digital visual technologies. Night Sweat: The sky´s blue hanging above the black of a forest. Lightning flashes over a clearing. And the white ball of the moon with dark spots. These are the three suggestions that make Night Sweat an examination of a visual effect´s technical aspects.
