Synopsis:
Actresses: In order to prepare the role of an important old actress, a theatre student (Mercè Pons) interviews three actresses who were her pupils: an international diva (Glòria Marc, played by Núria Espert), a television star (Assumpta Roca, played by Rosa Maria Sardà) and a dubbing director (Maria Caminal, played by Anna Lizaran). El vicari d'Olot: In a small village in the heart of Catalonia, advantage is made of the holiday visit of an ecclesiastical authority to organize a series of talks on the subject of religion and sex in the present day. This splits the village into two warring sides, those for and those against the Congress, and it is only after a tense series of negotiations between the two sides that a consensus is reached. An array of local characters lead the story to its happy ending through a series of comical and satirical situations. Caresses: Eleven episodes portray different encounters in a large city during the course of a single night towards the end of the millennium. A young man wants to stop living together with a young woman because he believes that they no longer have anything to say to each other. The young woman goes to visit her mother, an elderly woman. She lives with an old lesbian who meets her homeless brother. She asks him to forgive her for having seduced his wife all those years ago, but the brother pretends not to know who she is. A young boy attacks the homeless man. At first he tells him about his wild nights, then he knocks him to the ground and steals the old man's ring. At home the young boy has a bath and asks his father to join him in the tub. The boy's father has a girlfriend, a young woman. He intends to end their relationship... Eleven interlocking scenes that involve two characters, one of whom carries forward into the next scene, until the chain comes full circle. Beloved/Friend: Jaume, a sick professor of literature, decides to leave his heritage "an essay on the book of Ramón Llull" to his best student David, a hustler. Anita no perd el tren: Anita sees how the over three decades that she has been working at a cinema box office are literally devastated: the building is demolished to give way to a cinema complex, and she is forced into early retirement because she does not fit into the new company's image. Incapable of getting over the shock, and by inertia, she continues going back to the empty lot every day, where the cinema used to be and where a construction company is building the new complex. By mere chance, she ends up in love and involved with a man who drives a bulldozer at the construction site. A tender and bittersweet affair comes about, which is carried out in the dark, inside a trailer where the company has its offices. He is married and does not hide it. But, despite that, and thanks to their secret meetings, they are both able to open a door to hopes for the future. This is a relationship without perspectives, but in Anita's case, at her early fifties, it helps her to mark a before and after in her life. Barcelona: 6 characters--contemporary archetypes of urban solitude--in an old Barcelona building: an old husband and wife, her sister, and 3 tenants: a teacher of French, a young ex-footballer, now security guard, and a pregnant Latin American girl.
