Synopsis:
Mr. and Mrs. Kabal's Theatre: A dark and grotesque story of a married couple the wife, a mechanical monster made up of iron bits and her henpecked husband. Goto, Island of Love: A simpleton thief on Goto, an isolated island ruled by a barbaric dictator, climbs ranks from criminal to fly-catcher, dog-keeper and boot polisher, while himself and other islanders get caught up in throes of temptation, which threatens to change the fate of the island forever. Blanche: Blanche is the young, pure, beautiful wife of the Master of the castle, in a secluded land. Every man is in love with her, including the King and his servant Bartolomeo, visiting the Master. The Beast: Under the condition that within six months from the death of the accomplished businessman Philip Broadhurst, his beloved daughter and heiress to his immense fortune Lucy gets married to Marquis Pierre de l'Esperance's son Mathurin, innocent fair Lucy heads with her aunt to the crumbling estate of her soon-to-be husband. But the once noble estate is nestled deep in the French dense woods, where centuries ago, a wild and ravenous supernatural beast roamed the very forests driven by a raw and unquenchable lust for virginal unprotected girls. Before long, young Lucy completely unaware of the menacing legend and the strange rumours that cloud the family's name will begin experiencing appalling, yet sensually charged visions of an unprecedented vividness. Is there a bit of truth in the legend of the Beast of Gévaudan? Immoral Tales: Four erotic tales from in various historical eras. The first, 'The Tide', is set in the present day, and concerns a student and his young female cousin stranded on the beach by the tide, secluded from prying eyes. 'Therese Philosophe' is set in the nineteenth century, and concerns a girl being locked in her bedroom, where she contemplates the erotic potential of the objects contained within it. 'Erzsebet Bathory' is a portrait of the sixteenth-century countess who allegedly bathed in the blood of virgins, while 'Lucrezia Borgia' concerns an incestuous fifteenth-century orgy involving Lucrezia, her brother, and her father the Pope. The Astronauts: An inventor builds a homemade spacecraft, and uses it to have various adventures, including peeping at women, visiting 'human' planets, and becoming involved in intergalactic warfare. The Concert: A short film by Walerian Borowczyk. Ostensibly a film of a concert given by the round, unassuming Monsieur Kabal and his spiky, terrifying wife, it's actually a cover for their frequent attempts at causing each other extreme physical harm. Grandma's Encyclopaedia: A short film by Walerian Borowczyk. This first volume looks at the first three letters in Grandma's encyclopaedia: A for 'Automobile', B for 'Ballon', and C for 'Chemin de fer'. Renaissance: To the sound of trumpets, a collection of pulverised antique bric-a-brac begins to reassemble itself, revealing a stuffed owl, a cornet, a hamper, books, a doll, a plate - and a bomb... The Games of Angels: A bizarre, semi-abstract animated film, based around the theme of angels being processed by a nightmarish factory. It has been interpreted as an allegory of the concentration camp experience and as a portrait of the industrialisation and collectivisation of the Soviet period. Joachim's Dictionary: A light-hearted animated romp through the alphabet (in French), with each letter indentified by both a word and a visual interpretation of that word, by the crudely-drawn Joachim. Rosalie: A haunting, minimalist short that mostly consists of a monologue to camera by the young Rosalie, on trial for the murder of her new-born infant. Gavotte: The title for this sadomasochistic musical short subject in which several period dwarves perform a skit, comes from a medium paced dance popular in 18th century France. Diptych: Borowczyk presents two seemingly distinct 'volets'. In the first we see an old farmer and his dog shot in stark black and white. The second features a succession of tableaux vivant in startling colour featuring houseplants and kittens. The Phonograph: An old phonograph assembles itself, plays songs on wax drums before self destructing. In many ways The Phonograph is a companion piece to Renaissance, there is nevertheless something quietly affecting about Borowczyk's final 'object' animation. The Greatest Love of All Times: A portrait of Serbia's erotic surrealist painter Popovic Ljuba, with Richard Wagner's Tannhauser on the sound track. Scherzo Infernal: Big-breasted tailed demoness and demons whose tails are phalluses strut, rut, reproduce, nurse, and generally show off amidst the flames. Holy Smoke!: An animated film made by Walerian Borowczyk for W.D. & H.O. Wills. A very pompous cigar smoker reminisces about the good old days when the lower … The Museum: An advert made by Walerian Borowczyk for a French pasta company. After everybody has left the museum, the paintings can finally come alive and help themselves to some pasta for dinner. Tom Thumb: An animated advert made by Walerian Borowczyk for a French pasta company. Venus on the Half-Shell: Featuring Bona Tibertelli De Pisis's excellent erotic graphic works - wife of writer André Pieyre de Mandiargues while working in her atelier, together with fragments of her graphic works inspired by one of Remy de Gourmont's writings.
