Synopsis:
In the spirit of the groundbreaking series WWII Lost Films and Vietnam Lost Films, these two fascinating programs unearth the untold stories of one of the most critical military operations of World War II. D-DAY: LOST FILMS presents this famous battle using recently-discovered colour footage, much of which had not been seen before. Viewers can witness the largest amphibious assault in history entirely in painstakingly-restored detail - where an astonishing 5,000 Allied ships landed over 160,000 soldiers across a 50 mile stretch of Normandy beaches. D-DAY: THE UNTOLD STORIES presents the key events of the Allied invasion of Nazi-held Europe and the subsequent battles that captured the control of the Normandy coastline. Some of the last surviving veterans recall in gripping detail the terror, stoicism and drama from the frontlines of war. While the story of D-Day has been told many times, this special honours the diverse backgrounds of all who served, including the experiences of African-American servicemen who fought and died. Rare archival footage from the invasion along with stunning recreations enhance a compelling story that changed the world.
