Synopsis:
Genevieve (Nia Vardalos) and Greg (John Corbett), the conflicted lovebirds in the bottom-drawer romantic comedy "I Hate Valentine's Day," may be in their 30s, but they play the game of romance with the finesse of sixth graders in the spin-the-bottle phase of hormonal exploration. Genevieve, who owns a Brooklyn flower shop called Roses for Romance, has contrived a code of serial courtship in which she terminates each budding relationship after five dates, before she can be seriously hurt. Greg, a former lawyer from Atlanta, has opened a nearby restaurant called Get on Tapas, whose cutesy-poo name, which nobody seems to get, says everything about the movie's moronic level of wit. Ms. Vardalos, who directed, plays her character like a walking smiley-face button.

She had him at get lost. Whoever said true love was a smooth ride? Having been hurt numerous times in the past, Genevieve (Nia Vardalos) avoids the pain of getting dumped by not letting any one man in and applying the "five dates only" rule. Then, restaurateur Greg (John Corbett) comes along and after five dates with him, she finds out that even the one rule she never breaks becomes the one thing that breaks her heart. Now, she has to figure out a way to woo Greg away.

Meet Genevieve. She loves romance. She loves flowers. She loves Valentine's Day. All of which is fitting as the owner of "Roses for Romance," a quaint flower shop in the heart of a friendly Brooklyn, NY neighborhood. Her one problem is that she hates relationships. Having been hurt numerous times in the past when it comes to matters of the heart, Genevieve keeps herself happy by not letting any one man in. Dating is a game to her, a game she is very good at. Genevieve doesn't get dumped and never gets hurt because she doesn't stick around long enough for things to get ugly. Then she meets Greg.
