Synopsis:
His New Mamma: A farm lad's aging father thinks that the boy is after Dad's fiancée, so he banishes the young man, who heads to California. He gets employed to drive a cab, and through a fare, he meets a lovely young lady. His work takes him to the beach, where he sees Dad's fiancée with another man. He calls home and learns that she has deserted his father after cleaning him out. The lad and his lassie follow the woman and try to prevent her from marrying yet another rich man, but she's abetted by her chauffeur. Will our farm boy and his sweetie stop injustice from happening again? Picking Peaches: A series of sketches with a shoe clerk, his wife, and his extra-curricular activities. The clerk steps out on his wife with one of his customers. Both his wife and the woman's husband catch them when they go to the beach and later watch a beauty and fashion contest. His wife enters it wearing a mask. Back at work on Monday, all has returned to normal, until the winner of the contest shows up for her prize: a complete wardrobe. Later, the clerk mistakes the manager's wife for his own and sets out to avenge a kiss he sees them exchange. A trip to the hospital later, the shoe clerk still has an eye for a peach. Smile Please: Our hero is the town's photographer and its sheriff. He's in love with a young woman who's also pursued by the older, more devious Dudley Somerset. First, our hero must do a few heroic things, saving the lass from danger. He must also not move too quickly on the romantic front. Once she's willing to marry him, he must balance the duties of the groom with that of the sheriff, while Dudley tries to convince the lass that our hero is untrue to her. Once all is straightened out, the hero makes peace by inviting her family to a photoshoot. Her little brother wreaks havoc. The First 100 Years: A man saves his lady love from Black Mike then comes wedded bliss. He hires a cook, who's brusque, domineering, and constantly smoking a cigar. Out of the blue, the couple gets a visit from his old friend, Roland Stone, bluff and portly. Roland befriends our newly-wed's wife, and this friendship deepens after the husband hires a new cook, the lovely Miss Gainsborough, who gives her boss a little too much friendly attention. That night, a prowler skulks, Miss Gainsborough faints, the newly-wed husband comes to her rescue, and she grabs him and holds on. His wife is offended and determines to leave with Roland. Is the marriage over? The Luck o' the Foolish: Harry and Marcie are on a train headed for a new job. There's comedy in the berths and during Harry's morning shave, then a thief steals the money Harry needed for his new job, so he must go back to being a beat cop and Marcie works as a seamstress. One evening she delivers a dress to a party and a Lothario asks the hostess to get Marcie to stay. Outside the same house, Harry the cop is investigating strange noises. Thieves, bombs, a wallet, a swimming pool, and misunderstandings figure in the luck of our foolish but winsome pair. All Night Long: After falling asleep in a theater, Harry is starting to head home when he stumbles upon a burglary in progress. One of the burglars recognizes Harry as an old army pal, and they start talking about old times. The two had been involved in a heated rivalry over a girl while they were in France during the war, and now they have quite a bit to say to each other. Boobs in the Wood: Chester Winfield tries to make it as a lumberjack, but he's foiled by his lack of strength and the jealous foreman, Big Bill Reardon, after Chester catches the eye of Hazel Wood, Big Bill's favorite and the camp's waitress. Bill tries to eliminate Chester, so he and Hazel head down the mountain for other work. She waits tables and gets him a job as a dishwasher. He spills kerosene in the soup and then must serve it to an angry customer. Hazel tells a couple of tall tales about Chester, and soon all the customers, the owner, and the cook, think he's a desperado. They make him the saloon bouncer. Some trick shooting seals his reputation. Then Big Bill arrives for a showdown. Feet of Mud: As Harry has 'cleaned up' on the football field and won the big game, Natalie's dad figured that he should do the same in the world of work before marrying his daughter. Harry's chance to prove himself comes with an 'engineering' job with the city. But it's sanitary engineering, and while our street sweeping hero tries his best, he just can't avoid making enemies. When he stumbles into the midst of a lively Chinatown tong war, it's Harry's bravery that saves Natalie and wins the day. His Marriage Wow: In Highland Park, it's Agnes Fisher and Harold Hope's wedding day. Mishaps almost keep them from getting hitched: he goes to the wrong church, then, one of the guests, Professor McGlumm, convinces him that the bride only wants him to collect his life insurance. Finally they marry and her family moves in with them. Harold is now convinced that he'll be poisoned at dinner. When further mishaps give him stomach problems, McGlumm rushes him toward the hospital. On the trip, all is revealed and it takes a bride's kiss to set things right. Plain Clothes: The Ferrett Gang has stolen a diamond necklace. The gang is renting a room from a woman whose daughter is being courted by Harvey Carter, a clueless private eye. Cecile Rhodes, the owner of the necklace, promises Harvey $10,000 if he finds it. The gang thinks Harvey, with his honest face, would be the perfect person to fence the goods. Can Harvey out think the gang, earn his reward, and avoid the wrath of his girl's formidable mother? Remember When?: When Harry was a lad, he lived at Hillcrest Orphanage, where he played with Rosemary, a neighbor girl. She moves away, leaving him just a locket. Soon after, he runs away from the orphanage and spends the next 15 years as a tramp. After happenstance and misadventure, he's hired by Mack's traveling circus; Rosemary is its bearded lady. By luck, they pitch their tents right across from Hillcrest, bringing a flood of memories. Will Harry and Rosemary reunite? Can he get past her beard? The Sea Squawk: A Scottish immigrant on board ship becomes a pawn in a jewel heist aboard the S.S. Cognac, a three-star liner. Blackie Dawson, the uncrowned king of jewel thieves, and his accomplice Pearl Blackstone, have stolen a huge ruby. A detective is searching every cabin, so Blackie forces our young Scot to swallow the gem and, under threat of being shot, to stay mum. The detective is assisted by Flora Danube, a blue-eyed Bulgarian daisy who keeps those eyes open. To escape death, the young Scot disguises himself as a woman, but that draws a lot of attention; when his disguise is discovered, he must climb for his life. Is a European union in the offing? Fiddlesticks: Is there a place in the world for Harry Hogan? On the day his parents and burly brothers kick him out of the house for never earning money - and whiling away his time taking music lessons, his teacher, Professor Von Tempo, gives Harry a music diploma to get rid of him. Harry's so bad that Von Tempo's neighbors complain during his lessons. Armed with the diploma, Harry sets out to seek his fortune. He spends the night in a flea-bag hotel, figures out how to get his bass fiddle out of the room without paying for the lodging, and looks for a gig. On his first day, he joins Von Tempo's street band and he meets Penrod the rag picker. Which encounter will prove fateful? Lucky Stars: Henry Lamb sits listlessly on a curb. A sidewalk fortune teller with a telescope tells Henry he has a lucky star, and that if he follows it, he'll become a doctor, travel far, and meet a dark lady. Henry now has a purpose. With the wad of money he's saved, he boards a train, meets Dr. Healy, goes with Healy to the Mexican town of San Tabasco, and sees the lovely Mazda looking down on him from a balcony. Is everything just as his fortune foretold? Has he indeed followed his lucky star? Saturday Afternoon: Harry and his friend have planned to go out for an afternoon of fun. But first, Harry must figure out how to slip away from his domineering wife with some money to spend. Once he finally does get away, he finds that his troubles are only beginning. Soldier Man: After the armistice, one U.S. soldier remains unaccounted for: he's wandering the fields of Bomania, hungry, thinking the war is still on. (He was in a German prison camp, escaping while his captors celebrated the Great War's end.) Turns out, he's the spitting image of Bomania's King Strudel. The prime minister wants Strudel to sign a peace treaty ending civil war with a cousin. Bomania's General Von Snootzer wants the war to continue, so he contrives to derail the treaty. Strudel is a drunk, his queen hates him. Into the mix stumbles our dough boy. If he can pass for the king, maybe the treaty can continue. But what of the queen and her plans?
