Synopsis:

Jonathan Livingston (voice of James Franciscus) is a young, impetuous seagull. He likes to fly in outrageous and fast ways, ways that are frowned upon by his seagull flock. One day he returns triumphantly to his clan after having achieved the impossible feat of flying faster than 60 miles per hour. When he returns to his flock following the feat he is denounced by the flock Elders and immediately kicked out of the flock. He attempts to change their minds, but is forced to leave and fly out on his own in despair. Before he has been gone from his flock long though, he meets some strange and wonderful seagulls from another land that tell him he isnt alone in his beliefs and desires as a seagul. Under the tutelage of these wonderful new seagulls Jonathan soon becomes a mentor and teacher for other seagulls like himself.

Jonathan is sick and tired of the boring life in his sea-gull clan. He rather experiments with new, always more daring flying techniques. Since he doesn't fit in, the elders expel him from the clan. So he sets out to discover the world beyond the horizon in quest for wisdom.

Tale of an outcast seagull who returns to his flock only to be forced to leave again after he raises a bird from the dead.
