Probably there has hardly been another conductor who was able to combine the highest musical standards with personal warmth as convincingly as Leonard Bernstein. His extraordinary musicality, with which he combined an emotional and analytical approach to music, made Bernstein not only one of the most well-known conductors, but also an outstanding musician and educator. The present recordings of this 5-DVD box show Bernstein in all its human intensity and allow us to take a glimpse into the exciting and soulful way in which Bernstein brought his interpretation to his musicians and the public. The result is a tribute to the brilliant conductor who would have celebrated his 90th birthday this year.
