Synopsis:

Nancherrow: After Colonel Carey-Lewis dies, his irrepressible daughter, Loveday, inherits the house and all of its problems. Bewitched by the magic of Nancherrow, Loveday fights to keep the estate going so that, in time, her young son Nat may inherit the same, while dealing with the reappearance of her one true love Gus and her failing marriage to Walter. Meanwhile, Judith finds life as the wife of a busy doctor difficult, especially after suffering multiple miscarriages. It is a time of much change and heartfelt expectations for everyone at Nancherrow. September: Verena Steynton is holding a party for her daughter. Crippled war veteran Lord Archie Balmerino and his long-suffering wife will be there. Edmund Aird, a wealthy entrepreneur, and his beautiful American wife have been invited. But the war draws to a close, and Judith finds new romance, and Loveday suffers the consequences of a very hard decision, as she is forced to choose between Gus whom she loves, and her husband, Walter, the father of her young boy Nathaniel.
