Synopsis:
No french review yet:
The Hands (1994)
In this Swedish thriller, a man with "divine" abilities wreaks havoc upon the residents of a small island off the Swedish coast. Tomas is accepted into the tiny community after he demonstrates his talent for diving water or oil. Tomas is a con artist.
Spring of Joy (1993)
This is story about an elderly man who's wife has just passed away. He is carrying her remains in an antique vase for burial at their cottage in the country. The story relates the trip of the old man, his son, a middle aged rock singer who lives a bohemian life in an old bus, and the son's young girl friend (Catti). Many comical mishaps and adventures befall them (and the urn) on the way to the cottage, where the story has a surprise ending. On a deeper level, the story is about the relationships between the three main characters and how they change during the journey.
Autumn in Paradise (1995)
Ragnar Persson, a 68-year-old widower, is living at his summer cottage with his son, Mikael, and his son's pregnant girlfriend, Catti. Ragnar falls in love with his neighbour, Vendela, who runs an apple orchard. Mikael is carrying on an affair with Susanne, a childhood friend who is married to Henning, the owner of the local apple juice plant. A great rift in the family opens up when Mikael, who is always broke, accuses Vendela of just trying to get his father's money.
Run for Your Life (1997)
After giving birth to a son, Catti and her husband Mikael get entangled in an organization that hides illegal immigrants in Sweden. They slowly realize that their picture perfect country in reality is built on police brutality, state coercion and inhuman immigration policies.
The Eye (1998)
Richard Hobert wrote and directed this psychological thriller, the fifth installment of Hobert's feature film series based on the seven deadly sins. Continuing the experiences of nurse Ingrid (Lena Endre), a character introduced in the earlier political thriller Run for Your Life, a year has passed. Ingrid now meets wealthy businessman Fredrik (Samuel Froler) and moves in with him. They announce their engagement at a party, but Fredrik has vanished by the next morning. The police inform Ingrid that he killed himself by leaping from a Malmo-Copenhagen ferry. However, Ingrid's friend Mikhael (Goran Stangertz) correctly deduces that Fredrik staged a fake suicide. But why? Obsessed with Ingrid, Fredrik wants to learn that she really loves him, so he installs elaborate spy equipment in his own house in order to track her every move. For final proof, the crazed Fredrik hires someone to test her faithfulness by seducing her.
Where the Rainbow Ends (1999)
The sixth in a projected series of seven, Richard Hobert directs this Swedish rock musical about the seven deadly sins. In a desperate attempt at forestalling financial oblivion, Mikael (Goran Stangertz) attempts to stage his semi-autobiographical rock opera in a circus tent in the coastal city of Malmo. His wife Catti (Camilla Lundin) is forced to close her store, and the two move into a trailer park. There they meet Tove (Pernilla August), a victim of a rather ugly divorce, and she and Catti soon become fast friends. Along the way, she also meets Mikael's former friend Rajje (Rolf Lassgard), who offers to front her some money in return for other services.
The Birthday (2000)
Swedish director Richard Hobert rounds out his series on the seven deadly sins by inviting most of the main characters from his previous films for a big ol' birthday party. Amid the streamers, party favors, and animal balloons, failed rock star and circus performer Mikael (Goran Stangertz) celebrates his 50th birthday with his longtime girlfriend Calli (Camilla Lunden) and their two kids. Mikeal finally sums up the gumption to ask for Calli's hand in marriage. Unfortunately, she is falling in love with some one else. Meanwhile, Ingrid (Lena Endre) from Run for Your Life returns from a charity gig in Africa, half-blinded by a mosquito bite, while Erik (Jakob Eklund), from the same flick, is looking for his kids. A former divorce victim in Where the Rainbow Ends, Tove (Pernilla August) is now a successful businesswoman, while Ralf, of The Hands fame, remains a drunken scumbag.
