GRAMPER UND BOSSE - BAHNGESCHICHTEN is like a nostalgic commuter's journey between the past and present. Working conditions have radically changed. The economic pressure of productivity has accelerated automatization and the disappearance of jobs. Modernization of installations and equipment has generated a new brand of employees, detached from that sentiment of belonging to a band of enthusiasts. But there is an exception, a handful of railway fanatics still exists. Like this locomotive driver who realized his childhood dream of working on the railway. We see him in his house, setting up his scale model of a railway system, carefully depositing with a spoon tiny pieces of gravel on the railway lines. In a series of portraits, ranging from the steward in the restaurant car to the big boss, Edwin Beeler provides us with an amazing film of immersion in the world of work.
