Werner Schroeter's friend and collaborator Elfi Mikesch crafts a love letter to the charismatic helmer and his working style with "Mondo Lux." Following Schroeter's 2006 cancer diagnosis, Mikesch knew she needed to record his working methods and capture his distinctive views on creativity, discussed here with unflagging energy and a deep artistic engagement, notwithstanding his skeletal mien; Schroeter died in 2010. Though often engrossing, the docu's piecemeal nature, heavy on scenes from a stage rehearsal, is unlikely to attract auds unfamiliar with Schroeter's eccentric vision. Fests and satcasters will benefit most.
